This small vase was made in the studio of Japanese ceramist Aya Ogawa, in Tokyo, Japan.
Aya often uses (not for this vase) an ancient Japanese ceramic technique "shinogi". She appreciates the way the pattern appears when scratching the earth with a specific tool. Aya cuts deep lines in her baked pieces before applying a glaze.
