Youkyung Sin is a Korean ceramicist based in Germany. Attached to her roots, she seeks to preserve her cultural identity while allowing her adopted environment to naturally permeate her work.
In her pieces, she layers different buncheong techniques — dipping, inlaying, iron painting, cobalt painting, and brushing. These layers reveal much more than simple decoration: they bear the traces of time and gesture, testifying to a sensitive dialogue between tradition and lived experience.
Buncheong is a traditional Korean ceramic technique where dark clay is covered with a light slip. It is distinguished by free decorative gestures—dipping, brushing, inlaying—which give the pieces a lively and spontaneous expression.
