Small plate made by Kihara, originally from southern Japan on the island of Kyushu. Patterns like chrysanthemums are very present in traditional Japanese dishes. These small pieces called mamezara , or “bean plates,” are traditionally used for appetizers, but can just as easily be used as bowls to hold various jewelry, coins, or stationery.
