Atelier Vitrac

Braided spoon in red sandstone L 13.5cm - Beige

Piece made by hand in the workshop of Atelier Vitrac.

Gil Vitrac created his first workshop "Atelier Vitrac" in 2011 in Paris and then moved to Vernon in Normandy. Gil shapes everyday ceramics in chamotte sandstone. She works mainly on the wheel but also on the plate and the coil. The search for refined forms is linked to her desire for beauty and simplicity that she draws from nature. She collects earth and ashes that partly make up my enamels. She seeks and experiments by keeping alive the possibilities of chance. The ceramist likes the unexpected, the drips, sometimes the imprint of her fingers, just as many traces of a singular moment which makes each ceramic a unique piece.
The meeting of earth and minerals echoes the interest aroused in her by stones, forests or rivers. Gil fires his pieces in an electric oven first at 980 degrees then at 1250 degrees.
